Being the driver of a black car can be both a boon and a curse. When the paint is pristine, they are absolutely breathtaking, but it doesn’t take much for them to become a visual nightmare. Unlike any other color, scratches, swirls, and scuffs are much more evident on black paintwork.
Paint protection is crucial to prevent fine scratches or swirl marks as well as etching caused by bird droppings or tree sap. It’s not just about protection. Your goal is a deep, glossy finish. In comparison to wax, a quality sealant can last much longer. Sealants are made from synthetic materials such as polymers along with car wax, which provide long-term durability.
In recent years, sealants have advanced greatly. A number of new sealants are also suitable for use on plastic, rubber and glass. Almost anyone can make use of them. Since sealants last so much longer, I often apply them instead of waxes. Also, these products protect your vehicle from hazardous UV rays, moisture, and dust. This means washing your car is more relaxing and less stressful than before.
CarPro Reload Spray Sealant
Many professional detailers swear by Car Pro Reload. A water-soluble product made of modified silica, CarPro Reload differs from typical polymer-based sealants. The result is a shiny, clean car that stays free of dirt!
This product should be applied to a wet car as it may cause streaking, particularly on black paint. Using diluted product can also reduce streaking. Customers love the fact that this product can be included in their drying routine. A light spray after a wash removes water spots and protects paintwork.
It’s also super easy to use this kind of sealant! Use a fine mist to spray on your vehicle’s panel. It’s best to spread it with a microfiber cloth before buffing it with another one. All done in minutes without any cure time. It is safe to use this sealant on glass, plastic trim, and rubber, so there is no need to worry about overspraying. That makes it an ideal coating to apply over ceramic.
Car Pro has been a huge hit in the last few years. Furthermore, they produce some of the most popular weatherproof nano-coating products. An alternative would be to use a nanocoating first, then the sealant.
Meguiar’s Ultimate Fast Finish
A premium car wax like this should be on your radar if convenience and speed are your thing. There is no doubt that Meguiar’s is a popular brand, providing excellent car care products. The Ultimate Fast Finish is a real steal at its price point as it’s probably the best deal available. This paint sealant is made from synthetic polymer that is very easy to apply. Because it doesn’t stain plastic or rubber trim like most waxes, it’s a big plus.
Application of this sealant is very fast and easy thanks to its aerosol can. It is sprayed onto the microfiber towel provided and then applied to the panel. Next, you smooth it out with the towel’s dry side. Applying it is extremely simple and does not require elbow grease. The process of completing an entire vehicle only takes a few minutes.
I like this sealant best on dark-colored and black painted cars, though it works well on any color paint job. This product produces fantastic shine and a glossy finish that rivals that of more expensive competitors. As it’s transparent, you won’t see any white marks, swirl marks, or waxy residue.
Wolfgang Concours Series WG-5500
The sealant is produced by a German company as implied by its name, Wolfgang. As a result of its incredible performance, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant has become one of the most popular products in its category. Even though it isn’t quite inexpensive, it is very effective, so you get your money’s worth.
In addition to its excellent gloss, it is exceptionally durable. In average conditions, you can expect it to last six months, although well-maintained ones may last longer.
It protects your car’s finish by repelling water and dust, allowing you to maintain your vehicle’s deep shine for longer. The product has claimed to have reduced the requirement for windshield wipers!
It is ideal for vehicles in black or darker hues, but it can be applied to all types of paint and colors. Once applied, Wolfgang WG-5500 makes black paint look incredibly deep and gives it an impressive wet shine. Just a small amount is needed and it spreads nicely over the paint. This makes me remember why I bought a black car.
The foam pad allows for easy application, and then a microfiber towel is needed for wiping up. No more annoying dust like you found in some waxes. This sealant can leave grey marks once it has cured on rubber or plastic trim, so watch out for this.
This sealant must be applied in extremely dry and cool conditions since it is extremely sensitive to moisture. A complete bond between the sealant and paint is achieved after 12 hours of drying. In the morning, I would suggest letting the car sit under a cover or in a garage. Morning dew interferes with the curing time of the sealant.
Jescar Power Lock Polymer Paint Sealant
Jescar’s Power Lock Plus is a great option for black or other dark colors, as it should look good for three to four months. Moreover, it effectively conceals minor scratches and swirls. Even though it’s more affordable than Wolfgang’s DGPS, it does not have the same durability.
It offers the perfect balance of protection, ease of use, and longevity. As an added layer, apply Turtle Wax Seal n Shine or Collinite 845 to improve protection. On dark colored cars, I recommend buffing off product residue with a few dry, clean microfibers to avoid swirls.
It is best to apply with a Dual Action Polisher and finishing pad. Microfiber cloth/applicators can make it a little clingy. You should avoid applying too thick, as doing so hinders the ease of removal. Wait for 30-45 minutes before wiping it off. After 12 to 24 hours curing time, you can also apply a second coat.
Cars usually become dusty after a few days, but after applying this treatment, the dust does not seem to stick to the surface. Putting it on and taking it off is a bit of work but the results are worth it. You will rarely need to use a clay bar or wax it after a wash.
CarGuys Liquid Wax
Just like Wolfgang WG-5500, Car Guys Liquid Wax offers an impressive shine while being effortless to use. Using the most advanced technology, it can draw the maximum benefits from the polymer sealant and is made with an environment-friendly material.
The paint appears very glossy and slick after application. Because the paint surface is so smooth, bird poop and road dust are easily removed. In addition to reducing the need to wash and wax your car, this sealant also needs to be applied only once or twice a year!
A handy applicator pad and microfiber towel are included with the product, which is a welcome bonus for the price. There are no adverse reactions with decals or rims, and it can be used on glass. It is, however, important to be extremely careful when applying to plastic and rubber trims.
It takes at least six hours for the CarGuys Liquid wax to cure properly. Liquid waxes from CarGuys are more expensive, but it leaves its competitors far behind in the way of beautifying the paint jobs of cars.
