Im not near a store to buy the book, any help id appreciate, i looked all over the internet nd cant never get a answer for a MTXIII 5spd.

You can't physically move the shifter out of 1st gear or even with the shifter moving, the car is not responding & is stuck in 1st gear? Sean

can engine runs fine, i was advised it be a fork issue or manually popping the gear out.OF course im going off john deere mechanics.

Cant find the gear box and scared i might have to take the tranny apart.

first thing I would check would be the shifter rod underneath the car, they tend to rust out now a days. that is hidden underneath the heat sheild for the cat.

if its nothing to do with the shifter, sorry to say those John Deere mechanics may be correct. and your cheapest bet would probably be a used tranny since parts for the MTX trannys are obsolete.

Sounds like you've got broken parts in the shifter linkage. Get the car up on a rack or ramps and take a look as best possible. If the linkage is good, you've obviously got trans problems. Sean
