WOuld a hartmonic balencer just go with no warning?.
it sounds like a thrown rod or reaaaallly reallyy bad piston slap. but if all the electronics are off sound leaves any turn headlights on for example and it starts turn heat on gets louder etcc etc,,
now car runs PErect still! full power. perfect idle perfect throttle reponse and the noise stop when rpm are raised even just a tad.
also it is on the passenger side. put a screwdriver to the block head valve cover etc and no vibrations it seem (as to listen for noise in the handle.).
so y assumption its the harmonic right??
please ned your input guys !!ASAP!.
also how many hours labour at a shop or can i do it my self i the driveway ?? special tools?? anything??
thanks guys. |

I've got four 2.3's and none of my balancers have given me any problems. Having said that, I bought one off of Ebay for next to nothing quite a while back "just in case". From what I understand it is NOT a fun job. Like anything else, the harmonic balancer can "let loose" at any given time with no real warning. I would think that you might have some type of visual display of the balancer or the belt doing "goofy" things if it was severe. Sean

i was just freaking out because it sounded like a wrist pinslap a reallyyy bad one:S, But looks like shes going to live!
there doesnt seem to be anything loose but hard to tell with the pressure of the belt on. so its gonna go on the hoist today hoping to order the part(s) today have it back for the weekend. |

| Mine did just that. It's only that they make no noise until the rubber is fragged all the way around thus producing true slip in the belt drive. Even then no noise until the sheared rubber quickly wears down to make metal to metal contact, then the racket begins. Looking closely at the crank pulley will see it wobbling slightly. |
