| Is it an easy swap? Obviously its labour intensive. What are the parts options and requirements as far as acquiring parts? I would imagine if only GLS manual trans parts were all that worked it would be a monster to get the parts together. What are the options? |

You're best off to have a donor car for this. You not only need the clutch / trans, but also all of the linkage parts & ECM. Sean

Well, how much of that can come from a 4cyl manual car? It's hard enough finding a V6/Manual car. If I found one suitable for a donor then sure, I'd swap everything into a clean body. I've found a few 4 door V6 cars with the auto. Is the only manual trans/clutch/PP that will work the ones that came in the V6 GLS/XR5 cars? If so than they are wuite rare.
Basically, If i found a decent GLS or XR5 2 door with the stick I'd be happy. Next up would be the 4 door but they all saam to have the auto. I'd rather convert that than nothing. If I cant have that than it's perhaps going to be a ZX2 escors, civic or subaru of some sort. I loved my GLS.
I'm not afraid to convert a 4cyl (2 or 4 door) car either if the parts are readily available from other models. I'm just afraid that the manual trans and perhapse details like the computer and harness are too specific to the GLS/XR5 cars.
Do any over drive auto trans such as the taurus auto fit this application? This would be a last resort. |

| You will need the computer from a V6 (GLS &XR5 are mainly trim levels ,though the gear ratio's could be different depending on the model yr.) You'll require the MTX drive axles as well (yes their different). |

I could sell you my swap from my escort.
V6 engine 5 speed tranny, 600$ if you want the wirering and computer it's 200$ extra. [ wirering is alot of work to take out of a car.
I'm located In Ontario Canada 1/2 way from Ottawa Ontario and Montreal Quebec. |

Thanks for the replies guys. Escort, thanks for the offer. Its a bit too early and you're probably a bit too far away.
So what of a car that's already a V6? Trans, CV shafts, Clutch/PP/FW and TOB/slave and master i imagine all have to come from a V6 manual donor/source.
How about the clutch pedal assembly? would the 4cyl unit (or any of the 4cyl parts) work for the manual trans conversion? |

| yes the 4 cylinder tranny and axels will work! but.... you need to open the t2 trannys up and swap the bell housing from the V6 to the I4 tranny and the rest will fit. you need the body motor mounts too. |

That's a LOT of work. If a manual trans ZX2 is available I'd pick that much, much faster..................
Swapping bellhousings on integral bell trannies can produce destroyed results, the shafts inside must be reshimmed for necessary bearing preload. It's not as easy as simply swapping the main part. |

| yes it will if you get the ones with the rod shifter. you got to be careful they had some cable shifter too, and they won't work. |

the sho tranny will work, but you will have to put together your own axles, stock ones don't work with that tranny... and i can't remember what parts from what cars i had to use to make them work.
and the cable shifter would work in a tempo. the only thing you would have to do is drill holes in the floor for the shifter to bolt into.
really, the only v6 specifc parts you would need are the flywheel and the tranny. everything else can from a 4 cylinder car. and you can keep the stock v6 atx ecu, since the tranny is not computer controlled. |

Don't forget you have different gear ratios, not only as a final drive, but also through each gear. This can drastically alter both performance & economy levels. Sean

Can or will? What are the gear ratios foe each trans.
I found a decent non GLS 3.0 Vs with a manual trans. The manual trans in this car would be the same as GLS i'd imagine. The car is clean, clean enough I'd be ok living without the GLS 120 speedo cluster and bumper covers. |

He meant gear ratio differences between the SHO and the tempo v6 5 speed trans. there is actually no differences between the gls and any other t/t v6.
and pretty much just as you said, other then cosmetic mods and the speedo, there really isn't a difference between a gls and the other v6 cars. |
